Winter Storm Remus Bringing Great Smoky Mountains Snow Again The Great Smoky Mountains snow that won’t end. The National Weather Service has issued  yet another winter weather advisory for the Great Smoky Mountains and surrounding areas of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. More snow is in the forecast from  Winter Storm Remus advancing toward the southeast United States. The groundhog Sir Walter Wally in North Carolina got it right when he predicted 6 more weeks of winter. But the ski resort have had a great year with all the snow and cold temperatures this winter. Winter Storm Warning and Snow in the Forecast-Ski Resorts to Open

Winter Storm Warning for the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina and Ski Resorts Opening More snow is expected in the Great Smoky Mountains Wednesday and Thursday. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect tonight and Wednesday. Just a few inches for  Wednesday,  but 3-6 inches is predicted for Thanksgiving Day. Travel may be hazardous on Thanksgiving Day in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Accumulating snow in elevations over 3500 feet is possible. Several snow ski resorts and snow tubing parks will be open this weekend. Beech Mountain and Cataloochee will be open this weekend….

Wildfire in Linville Gorge Spreading

The wildfire in western North Carolina mountains near Table Rock in the Linville Gorge area has grown to cover about 2,600 acres. The fire started more than a week ago and has been difficult to control. US Forest Service officials report the fire is about 40% contained. They also report the smoke from the wildfire could possible cause hazardous driving conditions on roadways in the area due to poor visibility. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
