Leaf Peepers Flocking to Great Smoky Mountains

All the rain in the Great Smoky Mountains and leaf peepers are still traveling to the Great Smokies to see the fall foliage. There are reports of heavy traffic in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg with all the people trying to get a look at the changing leaves in the mountains. October is the second busiest month for the area. October is a good month for area businesses, especially  hotels, rental cabins, shops and restaurants. Paula Deen to Open New Restaurant in Pigeon Forge This Summer

Pigeon Forge is getting a new restaurant! Paula Deen has plans to open Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen in Pigeon Forge, TN. It will open in late summer of 2014.The restaurant will be located at The Island in Pigeon Forge and will be a 20,000 sq. feet restaurant and retail space.The Island in Pigeon Forge is a new retail and entertainment center that just recently opened featuring restaurants, shopping, attractions, and a 200 foot tall Ferris Wheel called The Great Smoky Mountain Wheel. If you know Paula Deen you know the food will be delicious!

Pigeon Forge Wilderness Wildlife Week 2014

The 24th Annual Wilderness Wildlife Week 2014 is Jan. 25- Feb. 1, 2014 in Pigeon Forge, TN at the LeConte Center at 2986 Teaster Lane. Wilderness Wildlife Week has free activities that promotes visitors to get out and enjoy the great outdoors and learn about nature. Seminars, lectures and workshops are held with outdoor experts that teach about the outdoors, nature and the environment. Guided walks and hikes for all. Educational and fun for the whole family.

Tourism Back Up in the Great Smoky Mountains

A recent study on tourism in Sevier County shows the first part of 2013 there was an increase in tourism in the Great Smoky Mountains area. The study also confirms the government shutdown did negatively affect tourism the first 2 weeks of October during the shutdown but after reopening the Great Smoky Mountains National Park  tourism recovered. The holiday season is a great time to visit the Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Gatlinburg areas because of the Christmas decorations, lights, holiday shows and the Smoky Mountain Christmas at Dollywood. GSMNP Attendance Getting Back to Normal

Great Smoky Mountains National Park Attendance Attendance in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is getting back to normal this June after a slow start to the first 5 months in 2013 thanks to the reopening of Newfound Gap Road. Attendance up till June of this year were some of the lowest in years a park official states, but the month of June for 2013 is up more than 5% from last year. GSMNP attendance also affect tourism in nearby Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. The GSMNP is the most-visited park in the United States.
