US 44/Newfound Gap Road Now Open Through Great Smoky Mountains

Us 441 also called Newfound Gap Road from Gatlinburg, TN to Cherokee is open now but the Park Service advises drivers to watch for patches of snow and ice still on the road in some places. Tourism Back Up in the Great Smoky Mountains

A recent study on tourism in Sevier County shows the first part of 2013 there was an increase in tourism in the Great Smoky Mountains area. The study also confirms the government shutdown did negatively affect tourism the first 2 weeks of October during the shutdown but after reopening the Great Smoky Mountains National Park  tourism recovered. The holiday season is a great time to visit the Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Gatlinburg areas because of the Christmas decorations, lights, holiday shows and the Smoky Mountain Christmas at Dollywood. Black Bear in Gatlinburg Causes Excitement Using Pedestrian Cross Walk Downtown Video of a bear crossing the street in downtown Gatlinburg goes viral. A black bear in downtown Gatlinburg made quite a spectecle as it roamed the streets recently.It was spotted making its way from the nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park and into downtown Gatlinburg.
